Ingolstadt vs Schalke: Preview and Predictions
Date: Saturday, 20th May 2017
Ingolstadt lost all hopes for saving the elite class status with the last weekend’s away draw with Freiburg.
The hosts are four points below HSV at the 16th position and they will play 2. Bundesliga in the next season.
The last round’s fixtures with Schalke 04 thus has no importance whatsoever for any of the two sides, but Maik Walpurgis and his men will certainly want to produce a decent farewell from the elite to their fans.
Walpurgis was on his way to save the team from relegation with three consecutive wins at the start of April.
However, Ingolstadt just failed to live up to their fans’ ambitions and keep it up in the same rhythm as they remained winless in each of the five following fixtures.
Even though the defensive line did show very strong displays allowing just a single goal in last three games, the attack failed to deliver on the other side of the pitch.
The visitors have had a campaign their fans will tend to forget as soon as possible.
Markus Weinzierl did manage to fix the horrendous impression from the first part of the season when Die Konigsblauen struggled a lot at the very bottom of the standings.
The team will end the campaign in the middle of the league table after a much better second part of the season, but it is still way below Schalke’s standards.
Ingolstadt vs Schalke 04: Head to head
The head to head tie is all square at a win, a draw and a loss for each of the teams in three previous meetings.
The match from this term of Bundesliga has seen Schalke snatching a narrow 1-0 win back in mid-January at VELTINS-Arena.
Ingolstadt vs Schalke 04: Prediction
It is very hard to predict the winner in a much with no significance for any of the sides.
We, however, don’t see a high-scoring affair since both teams have been struggling a lot to find the back of the net in last two weeks.
The hosts might have a greater motivation to win their last match among the elite which is why we’ll try and take advantage of the 5/6 on a DNB option against the non-motivated visitors.
